Felix Sampson

ABOUT

Felix is a creatively passionate individual who loves making and learning.


Born in Wellington, Felix studied at the New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD), graduating in 2015 with a Diploma in Dance Performance. While studying at NZSD he worked with the phenomenal staff of NZSD and many influential choreographers such as Ross McCormack (Preface: Homage to a Risk), Douglas Wright (Rapt excerpts), Thomas Bradley (Conditions of Entry), and Sarah Foster-Sproull (Forgotten Things) to name a few.


Upon graduating, Felix worked with Malia Johnston in her short work Semble which was performed at the Cubadupa Festival in Wellington (2016), and World of Wearable Art during their mini show at the Brancott Estate, choreographed by Victoria Colombus.


Felix then joined Australian Dance Theatre (ADT) in May 2016 as a full-time company dancer. Upon joining ADT he performed in the exciting return season of Ignition working with choreographers such as Lina Limosani, Katrina Lazaroff, Erin Fowler, Matte Roffe and Thomas Fonua. He then performed multiple works under the ground-breaking choreographer and directorship of Garry Stewart; Objekt, The Beginning of Nature, and Doppelganger.


He joined Dancenorth in 2017 and has enjoyed an incredibly rich and stimulating relationship with directors Kyle page and Amber Haines, and also his fellow colleagues of the dancer ensemble who continually inspire him everyday with their aspirations for excellence and creative spontaneity. Whilst at Dancenorth he has performed the works; Attractor (Lucy Guerin & Gideon Obarzanek), Rainbow Vomit, Tectonic, Dust, Noise (Kyle Page & Amber Haines) Communal Table (Directed by Kyle Page and Amber Haines in which Felix performed a solo choreographed by Thomas ES Kelly), Surge (Gabrielle Nankivell), One Infinity (Gideon Obarzanek). In Felix's spare time he enjoys many other creative practices such as writing and playing music, Visual Art, Creative Writing, and selecting records for local Townsville Pubs and Clubs.
