ABOUT

Damian is a passionate contemporary performance artist, teacher, and creative entrepreneur from Naarm/Melbourne (traditionally owned by the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nation). His endeavours exist primarily in contemporary dance, teaching, sound design, and creative event management.

Damian has trained at a full-time level in ballet, circus arts, and contemporary dance. He trained at VCASS, NICA, and Transit Dance. He has since worked and performed professionally, touring both locally and internationally. He has worked with a variety of companies and choreographers including Chunky Move, Stephanie Lake Company, Dancenorth, Melanie Lane, Tasdance, Shaun Parker & Company, Matthew Bourne, and Transit Dance Company.

As a dance maker, Damian operates a collective called Movement Décor; an independent contemporary performance art project. Movement Décor has performed extensively throughout the nightlife scene, the multi-day music and arts festival circuit, and Melbourne Fringe Festival. Bringing these interests of performance and music events together, Damian adopted performance curation, taking on the role as performance manager at Strawberry Fields Music and Arts Festival, and choreographing the opening ceremonies at Esoteric Festival. Damian also curates music and arts events under his business Helipad Studio; a sustainable clothing and events label and that aims to provide opportunities for emerging artists.

As for sound design, Damian works under the alias DAME. After several years of creating electronic music as a hobby, Damian undertook several professional music production projects; predominantly making sound for dance performances with Transit Dance Company.

Damian’s never-ending goal is to be surrounded by creative minds. He is keen to continuously dissect movement and performance art, while maintaining a multi-faceted creative approach to life.
