HIP HOP

Tuesday 6.30pm - 7.30pm

TEACHER: Jackson jobe

HIP HOP was born as a street dance which over the years incorporated a variety of dance styles and influences from a range of cultures. What distinguishes hip-hop from other forms of dance is that it is often "freestyle" (improvisational) in nature.

During our open classes students will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with a variety of hip hop styles including Krumping, Breaking, New Style, House, Waacking and Reggae Jam.

Classes will not only provide an opportunity to incorporate the learnt moves into routines but will also teach the basics of freestyle, promoting creativity and self-expression. The Choreography each week will be diverse and range from Old-School through to Nu-School or from a Slow Jam one week and then a RnB/House routine the next. Jackson's choreography works to contrast the light and shade (or the short, sharp, steps with fluidity, isolation movements) making the routines each week not only enjoyable and dynamic, but also challenging enough to work on improving individual skills.

JACKSON JOBE:

Jackson trained at Ettinghausen's Dance Theatre in Sydney and has some really exciting work to share with the Townsville dance community.

Jackson considers his own personal style, particularly in terms of choreography, to be one that is a little more unique, tending to highlight and put more of an emphasis on the lyrics rather than just the instrumentals in the music.
This allows the individual to mould the choreography with their own character, humour and emotions to personalise the routine.
