ARTISTIC PHILOSOPHY

Dancenorth is centred upon an inclusive ethos of shared ownership, collective conscience, support, interconnection and empowerment, Dancenorth’s Artistic Philosophy provides a fertile framework which galvanises the Company’s administrative and creative endeavours.  Artistic Director Kyle Page passionately believes in leveraging his position, networks and connections to create opportunities and support for independent artists, guest collaborators, secondments and Company dancers. Far from idealistic, Dancenorth’s Artistic Philosophy and its guiding principles are firmly grounded in current research by scientists and artists into the mind/ body relationship. The Artistic Director has established a daily practice for the Company dancers, which incorporates several mind / body techniques designed to support the use of a full range of mental, emotional and sensorial processes in dance creation. The aim is to nurture technical virtuosity and thinking capacity in equal measure.  Kyle  is currently working with mentor Dr. Scott de la Hunta, exploring the dance / science nexus.
